Reserve Restaurant, Bar and Lounge in Old City Philadelphia

It's hard to believe the weekend is here and almost gone. This week flew by! Last weekend at this very moment we were enjoying a fantastic steak dinner at the new Reserve Restaurant, Bar and Lounge in Old City, Philadelphia.  After finding out they had just opened back in February (and that they host Wine Wednesdays) we knew we had to give it a try!

This is a great spot for a fine dining, steak and seafood experience. We ordered as much food as we thought we could handle! They feature a Raw Bar from which we sampled the shrimp cocktail, clams and oysters. The shrimp cocktail sauce was a little bland and hot sauce was definitely in order. However, both the oysters and clams were fresh and delicious. We then sampled the House Goat Cheese Salad which was absolutely divine. As an entree we ordered the Myers Organic Steak and the New York Strip. We've had better steaks...not that they were bad, just nothing to remember. What made the meal fabulous were the incredible side dishes. We ordred the Truffle fries, Garlic Spinach and Cauliflower Gratin. They were amazing, but the cheesy Cauliflower Gratin was by far the best. For dessert we ordered the Chocolate Gelato, which completed the meal perfectly.

The bar menu consists of over 100 varieties of Whiskey and on Thursdays they host a Women & Whiskey event. On Wednedays they host Wine Wednesday and we defintiely plan on attending one soon and reporting back. Before our dinner we ordered both a Cabernet (Glass Mountain) and a Pinot Noir (Beaulieu Vineyard Coastal) from California. With our dinner we had the Merlot (Concannon) and the Syrah (Montpellier). They were the perfect pairings for our steaks. While we love CA wines, we were a little disappointed that their list of wines by the glass were exclusive to California.

The restaurant itself is beautfiul. The high ceilings and beautiful, long, velvet curtains give the place a vintage vibe with a contemporary flair. The clocks hanging over the bar and the Whiskey and Cigar Lounge upstairs give the place an old school vibe. The hostess, the bartender and our waiter, Mike, were very professional, yet friendly and helpful.

Reserve is definitely the type of place you can spend hours with girl friends or enjoy a quiet romatic evening with your better half. Elegant, but not uptight, we suggest dressing nicely, but no need to go overboard.  Some nice jeans, a pretty top and heels, and you're good to go. While not overly priced, expect to pay approximately $30 or less per entree, with the exception of a few steak entrees.  For more information and to check out their menu visit the Reserve website and reservations are highly recommended.
